互联网的发展也为人们带来了许多新词，比如下面要说的tweet。早前，tweet在《牛津词典(以下简称OED)》中的解释是指鸟类的叫声，现在它被新增了一种解释--“社交网络服务”。除此之外，OED还新增了"big data" 、"crowdsourcing" "e-reader"、 "mouseover" 、"redirect" 、 "stream"等时事新词。

现在，OED对tweet给出了全新的动名词解释。如下：
v. 2 a. intr. To make a posting on the social networking service Twitter. Also: to use Twitter regularly or habitually.（指经常性使用Twitter）
2 b. tran. To post (a message, item of information, etc.) on Twitter. Also: to post a message to (a particular person, organization, etc.).（指在Twitter上发布消息的行为）
n. 
2. A posting made on the social networking service Twitter.（指在Twitter上发布的状态）
